Thomas Eek Murstad: “It gets harder every year”

Second in the CrossCar Senior RallyX overall standings, Thomas Eek Murstad was not far from the title, finishing just one point behind the impressive Sebastian Enholm.

Nevertheless, the Norwegian makes no secret of the fact that the level of CrossCar continues to rise.

“In reality, there are a lot of excellent drivers in this championship. You only have to look at the times at the end of the first free practice session to be convinced, because there are almost twenty of us in the same second. That’s representative of the extreme quality of the field. If you want to get a good result at the end of the weekend, you know that the slightest mistake can be fatal,” says Thomas.

And it would be hard to argue with that. In the eight races of the 2023 season, no less than six different drivers have won the intermediate classification, while ten have won at least one qualifying race.

Above all, the figures reveal a ruthless reality: the CrossCar Senior Championship is simply unpredictable, with six different winners and nine drivers able to secure a place on the podium.

Despite two consecutive seasons in the top 3 of the RallyX championship, Thomas Eek Murstad remains cautious.

“I really think that the 2023 season has been incredibly tough, with the battle for the title going down to the very last moments of the final race at Höljes. Every year I get the impression that it’s getting harder and harder to keep up with the top drivers. So much so that we can’t afford to do anything.

“You have to be 100% from start to finish to have a chance of fighting for the title. Going into the last two races of the 2023 season, there were still five or six drivers who could win the championship, but that’s why I love this championship so much. You can’t afford to lose momentum if you want to fight for the title. Even winning a final doesn’t guarantee you’ll have the most points at the end of the weekend. The real key to having a chance of winning the trophy is consistency.”
