Marcus Norman looks forward to a tough season

Fourth overall in the Open 2WD class in 2023, Marcus Norman will be competing in his fourth season in the RallyX championship. However, in a rapidly expanding Open 2WD class, the Luleå-based driver knows that the 2024 campaign will be extremely turbulent.

Had it not been for an engine failure at the penultimate round of the RallyX championship in Grenland, Marcus Norman would undoubtedly have finished third on the final podium.

With two podium finishes in 2023, the Mercedes CLK driver also took advantage of the Tierp event to claim his second career victory on the RallyX scene.

Third in the championship before the penultimate race of the 2023 season in Grenland, Marcus Norman’s journey took a strange turn when, despite his best efforts, he was unable to take part in the final showdown of the year.

“It was inevitably disappointing not to be able to compete in the final race of the championship,” Marcus points out.

“Especially as we had the potential to do well at this track. Unfortunately, our engine failure a week earlier in Grenland decided otherwise. We did our best to repair the engine within a few days, but our efforts were in vain. The extent of the damage was much greater than we expected. Nevertheless, although the 2023 season was full of ups and downs, we showed how competitive we can be. We were able to prove that we have the potential to fight for the top spots, and our victory at Tierp is clearly part of that momentum.”

Encouraged by his performance, it was a logical decision for Marcus Norman to return to the RallyX championship this year.

“I think RallyX is the best rallycross championship at the moment. This championship has a lot going for it. The TV coverage is ultra-professional and very well done, while it is easy for the fans to follow the progress of the championship via the RallyX TV platform on Youtube. I have to admit, it’s a real pleasure to compete in this series.”

As the 2024 season heads towards an all-time record for the number of drivers entered, Marcus Norman makes no secret of his satisfaction at seeing the Open 2WD category grow so rapidly.

“It’s really a pleasure to see how the Open 2WD category is developing. In fact, I think the Open 2WD class is one of the most exciting classes to follow. The cars are extreme and rely on powerful engines, while the on-track action is non-stop. Add to that the presence of experienced drivers and I expect the 2024 season to be the toughest of all. It goes without saying that my determination is at an all-time high. I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel and try to fight for the title.”

With a third place overall in 2021 as his best RallyX performance, Marcus Norman has only one desire: to establish himself among the strong forces of the Open 2WD Championship.

“In terms of goals, my expectations are quite simple: to fight for the top step of the podium every weekend. However, I’m well aware that the competition is going to be tough, with a lot of talented drivers aiming for exactly the same goals as me. One thing is for sure, though: I plan to give it my all.”
