Riku Huuhka out of reach before Alvsbyn, Joni Turpeinen keeps pace

Competing in two different classes at the Finnish Rallycross Championship’s Kouvola event, Riku Huuhka proved to be untouchable last weekend.

Currently seventh overall in the CrossCar category of the RallyX championship, the young Finn didn’t do things by halves, taking the top step of the podium ahead of Joonatan Ylilammi.

A performance that will allow Riku Huuhka to travel to Alvsbyn for stages 5 and 6 of the RallyX championship as the leader of his own national series.

While Huuhka’s skills at the wheel of his Speedcar chassis were well known, he also excelled with his Toyota Yaris, taking a second victory in the V1600 RC category on the same weekend.

Meanwhile, the current leader of the Open 4WD category continued his excellent start to the season. Although Joni Turpeinen had to make do with an appearance in the Autocross class, the 15-year-old Finn didn’t miss the opportunity to put his Toyota MR2 through its paces by taking the top step of the podium. This bodes well for his return to the Ford Fiesta Supercar, which he will compete in at the Alvsbyn circuit in a few days’ time.

In the Junior CrossCar class, RallyX competitor Peetu Matalamäki took the lead with his first win of the season. Eleventh overall in RallyX, Peetu Matalamäki won the final ahead of Peetu Piira (who has qualified twice for a RallyX final and finished on the podium in Kouvola at the end of May), while Pauli Turpeinen, currently fourth overall in RallyX, completed the podium.
